Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6190

Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah al-Zuhri narrates from his father that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) proclaimed Islam openly, all the people of Makkah accepted Islam. This was before the prayer was made obligatory. So much so that when he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited a verse of prostration, none of them could find room to prostrate (because of the crowd). Then the chiefs of Quraysh, al-Walid bin al-Mughirah, Abu Jahl bin Hisham and others, came back from their lands in Ta'if and said: "Are you abandoning the religion of your forefathers?" So those people turned back to disbelief. Ya'qub bin Sufyan says: We do not know of any musnad hadith from Makhramah bin Nawfal other than this.
Mention of the merits of Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Yarbu' al-Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for its weakness is that 'Abdullah bin Lahi'ah is alone in narrating it and his 'poor memory' (su' al-hifz). Abu al-Aswad is Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Asadi, the orphan raised under the care of 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr.
