Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6152

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, supplication averts what has been decreed, and righteousness increases provision, and indeed a servant is deprived of (decreed) provision because of a sin that he commits."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This narration is "mawdu'" (fabricated).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi says in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" that Ibn Qarin is a kadhdhab (liar), Sa'id is wahin (extremely weak), and his shaykh was declared weak by Ibn Ma'in.
Important point: In place of this fabricated narration, the hadith of Thawban which has already passed at no. (1835), whose chain is far better than this one, suffices.
Grading: We graded it "hasan" there on the basis of supporting reports, except for the sentence: "Indeed, a man is deprived of provision because of a sin he commits."
