حَدَّثَنَا عبد الباقي بن قانِع الحافظ، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن يحيى القَزَّاز، حَدَّثَنَا العبّاس بن طالب، حَدَّثَنَا يزيد بن زُرَيع، عن سعيد بن أبي عَرُوبة، عن قَتَادة، عن الحسن، عن حُضَين بن المنذِر، عن المُهاجر بن قُنفُذٍ: قال: مررتُ برسول الله ﷺ وهو يتوضأ، فسلَّمتُ عليه، فلم يَرُدَّ عليَّ، فلما فَرَغَ ردَّه عليَّ واعتَذَر إليَّ وقال: "إنه لم يَمنَعْني أن أردَّ عليك إلَّا أَنِّي كرهتُ أن أَذكرَ الله ﷿ وأنا على غيرِ طهارةٍ" (1). ذكرُ مناقب كعب بن عُجْرة الأنصاري ﵁ -
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Muhajir bin Qunfudh (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution. I greeted him with salam, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not respond. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the ablution, he returned my greeting and, apologising to me, said: "Nothing prevented me from returning your greeting except that I disliked mentioning the name of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, without being in a state of purity."

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد فيه لِينٌ من أجل العبّاس بن طالب - وهو البصري - فقد قال فيه أبو زرعة: ليس بذاك، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات"، وقد توبع، ومن فوقه ثقات. قتادة: هو ابن دعامة السدوسي، والحسن: هو البصري.
Grading: This is a "sahih hadith", although there is some weakness (lin) in this chain because of al-Abbas bin Talib al-Basri.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Zur'ah criticized al-Abbas, but Ibn Hibban included him in "al-Thiqat", and he has also been corroborated.
Important point: Qatadah is Ibn Di'amah al-Sadusi, and al-Hasan is Imam al-Hasan al-Basri.
وأخرجه أحمد 31/ (19034) و 34/ (20760)، وأبو داود (17)، وابن ماجه (350)، والنسائي (34)، وابن حبان (803) و (806) من طرق عن سعيد بن أبي عروبة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it through various routes from Sa'id bin Abi Arubah, with this same chain.
وتقدَّم من طريق شعبة عن قتادة عند المصنّف برقم (601).
Reference / Source: It has already passed with the author (al-Hakim) via Shu'bah from Qatadah at no. (601).
