Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6094

It is narrated from Ibn Sirin that Ziyad once delivered a very long sermon, so Sayyiduna Hujr bin Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) called out: "The prayer! (that is, the time of prayer is passing)." But Ziyad remained absorbed in his sermon. He said again: "The prayer!" and struck the pebbles on the ground with his hand, and the people, following him, also struck the pebbles on the ground. Then he came down from the pulpit and led the prayer. Then he wrote a report of this incident to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Send him to me." When he arrived there, Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Believers!" He said: "Am I now the Commander of the Believers?! I will neither release you from your pledge nor pardon you." Then he ordered him to be killed. When the executioners set off with him, Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) requested: "Give me respite to pray two rak'ahs." They permitted him, so he prayed two rak'ahs, then said: "Do not remove these shackles from me, do not wash my blood, and bury me in these very clothes, for I shall be one who brings a case (before Allah on the Day of Resurrection)." The narrator says: Then he was martyred. Hisham says that whenever Muhammad bin Sirin was asked about a martyr (and his shrouding and burial), he would mention this very hadith of Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him).
