It is narrated from Busr bin Ubaydullah al-Hadrami that when Ziyad sent Sayyiduna Hujr bin Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), he ordered that they be imprisoned at a place called "Marj Adhra'". Then he consulted the people about them, and the people began to say that they should be killed. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Yazid bin Asad al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "O Commander of the Believers! You are our shepherd and we are your flock; you are our refuge and we are your pillars. If you punish, we will say that you did right, and if you forgive, we will say that you did very well. Forgiveness is closer to piety, and every shepherd will be questioned about his flock." The narrator says: At these words of his, the people dispersed.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The nisbah "al-Ghallabi" is with fathah on the ghayn and a doubled lam; it is an attribution to his grandmother "Ghallab", as al-Sam'ani vocalized it in "al-Ansab".
60/ 88. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here the name "Hisham" occurs without specification (muhmal), so it is difficult to identify him with certainty; however, it is possible that he is Hisham bin Isma'il al-'Attar or Hisham bin 'Ammar, since both are Damascenes and belong to the generation of those who narrate from Dawud bin 'Amr al-Shami. Al-Mufaddal bin Ghassan al-Ghallabi narrated from both of them, as Ibn 'Asakir mentioned in "Tarikh Dimashq" (60/ 88).
Important point: In the manuscripts it has been distorted here into "'Abd al-Hadrami"; it has been corrected according to the biographies of the narrator.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir narrated it at (12/ 223 and 33/ 374) through the route of Muhammad bin Abi Ghalib from Hushaym from Dawud bin 'Amr. Grading: There is no harm in its narrators (la ba'sa bihim).
