حَدَّثَنَا أبو العبّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حَدَّثَنَا يزيد بن عبد الصَّمد الدَّمشقي، حَدَّثَنَا أبو النَّضر إسحاق بن إبراهيم بن يزيد القُرَشي، حَدَّثَنَا خالد بن يزيد، حدثني هشام بن الغازِ (1)، حدثني عُبادة بن نُسَي - وكان عاملًا لعبد الملك بن مروان على الأردنْ - قال: مررتُ بناسٍ قد اجتمعوا على شيخٍ وهو يُحدِّث، ففَرَجوا عني، فإذا شيخ يحدِّث يقول: أيها الناس، إنَّ ثلاثًا عندكم أمانةٌ، من حافَظَ عليهنَّ فهو مؤمن، ومن لم يحافظ عليهنَّ فليس بمؤمن: إن قال: صلَّيتُ ولم يُصَلِّ، وصُمتُ ولم يَصُم، وأغتَسِلُ من الجَنَابة ولم يَعْتَسِل، قال: فقال مَن يَلِيني: مَن هذا؟ قال: عقبةُ بنُ عامر الجُهَني صاحبُ رسول الله ﷺ (2). ذكرُ مناقب حُجْر بن عَدِيٍّ ﵁ وهو راهب أصحاب محمد ﷺ، وذكرُ مَقتلِه
It is narrated from Ubadah bin Nusayy: I passed by some people who had gathered around an elderly man who was narrating hadith. They made way for me, and I saw that the elderly man was saying: "O people! Three things are a trust with you; whoever safeguards them is a believer, and whoever does not safeguard them is not a believer: (namely) if he says that he has prayed when he has not prayed, or says that he has fasted when he has not fasted, or that he has taken the ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity when he has not." Ubadah says: I asked the person sitting beside me: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(1) تحرّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: العابد، ووقع في (ز) و (ب): هشام العابد، بحذف "بن"، والصواب ما أثبتنا، كما في مصادر ترجمته فهشام بن الغاز هو الذي يروي عن عبادة بن نسي ويروي عنه خالد بن يزيد المري.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the word here has been distorted into "al-'Abid", while in manuscripts (Z) and (B) it is written "Hisham al-'Abid" with "bin" omitted. The correct name is "Hisham bin al-Ghaz", as is clear from the sources of his biography; it is this Hisham bin al-Ghaz who narrates from 'Ubadah bin Nusayy, and from whom Khalid bin Yazid al-Murri narrates.
(2) إسناده صحيح. خالد بن يزيد: هو ابن صالح بن صبيح المري.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Important point: Khalid bin Yazid refers to Khalid bin Yazid bin Salih bin Subayh al-Murri.
