أخبرني محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق الثَّقَفي، أخبرني أبو يونس، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن المنذر الحِزَامي قال: عُقبة بن عامر الجُهَني يُكْنَى أبا عمرو، توفي سنة اثنتين وخمسين (4).
It is narrated from Abu Yunus that Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir al-Hizami said: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Amr, and he passed away in the year 52 AH.

(4) خالف إبراهيمَ بنَ المنذر في ذلك خليفةُ بن خياط في "طبقاته" ص 121، وابن يونس المصري في "تاريخه" 1/ 347، وابن حبان في "مشاهير علماء الأمصار" (378)، حيث أرَّخوا وفاته سنة ثمان وخمسين، وهم موافقون في ذلك للواقدي الذي ذكر أنه توفي في آخر خلافة معاوية بن أبي سفيان، ذكر ذلك عنه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 9/ 503، وقد استمرت خلافة معاوية إلى سنة ستين.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Contradicting Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir regarding the year of death, Khalifah bin Khayyat (Tabaqat p. 121), Ibn Yunus al-Misri (Tarikh 1/ 347) and Ibn Hibban (Mashahir 378) recorded his death as 58 AH.
Reference / Source: These statements agree with al-Waqidi, who mentioned that he died at the end of the caliphate of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) (Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd 9/ 503); note that the caliphate of Mu'awiyah lasted until 60 AH.
أبو يونس: هو محمد بن أحمد بن يزيد بن عبد الله المديني، مفتي أهل المدينة.
Important point: Abu Yunus refers to Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Madini, who was the mufti of the people of Madinah.
