Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6055

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Whenever I prayed behind your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I heard him say when finishing the prayer: 'Allahumma ighfir li khatayaya wa dhunubi kullaha, an'ishni wa ahyini warzuqni wahdini li-salih al-a'mal wal-akhlaq, innahu la yahdi li-salihiha wa la yasrifu sayyi'aha illa anta' (O Allah! Forgive all my sins and my errors, grant me elevation, grant me (true) life, provide for me, and guide me to the best of deeds and character, for none but You can guide to the best of them, and none but You can turn away their evil).

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak on account of 'Umar bin Miskin, about whom Imam al-Bukhari said that he is not corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is also criticism of Muhammad bin Sinan al-Qazzaz, but he is corroborated here. Nafi' refers to Nafi', the freed slave (mawla) of Ibn 'Umar.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Dinawari in "al-Mujalasah" (1447), Qadi al-Maristan in his "Mashyakhah" (630), Ibn al-Bakhtari (174), al-Tabarani in "al-Saghir" (610), "al-Awsat" (4442) and "al-Kabir" (3875), and Abu Tahir al-Dhahabi in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (1868), through various routes via Muhammad bin al-Salt with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Tabarani said that this narration is reported from Abu Ayyub only with this chain, and Muhammad bin al-Salt is alone in narrating it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a shahid (supporting report) in the hadith of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated by Imam al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (7811, 7893), Ibn al-Sunni in "al-Yawm wa al-Laylah" (116) and al-Shajari in his "Amali" (1/ 254); but in it is 'Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, whose weakness is agreed upon.
Note / Clarification: The word "an'ishni" means: raise me up and strengthen my resolve. (See: Fayd al-Qadir 2/ 145).
