وحدَّثَناه أبو علي الحسين بن علي الحافظ، أخبرنا عَبْدان الأهوازي، حَدَّثَنَا عثمان بن أبي شَيْبة، حَدَّثَنَا أبو أحمد الزُّبيري، حَدَّثَنَا سفيان، عن ابن أبي ليلى عن أخيه عيسى، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى، عن أبي أيوب: أنه كانت له سَهُوةٌ، فكانت الغُولُ تجيءُ فتأخذُ منه، فذكر الحديث بنحوٍ منه (1). هذه الأسانيد إذا جُمِع بينها صار حديثًا مشهورًا، والله أعلم. بقيّة مناقبه

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had a small room, where the ghul (a female jinn) would come and take some things. Then he mentioned a hadith similar to it.
When these chains of narration are combined, it becomes a well-known (mashhur) hadith, and Allah knows best.

(1) حسن بما قبله، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لسوء حفظ ابن أبي ليلى - واسمه محمد بن عبد الرحمن ابن أبي ليلى - لكن قال الذهبي في "التلخيص": هذا أجود طرق الحديث.
Grading: This narration is "hasan" on account of what precedes it (supporting reports).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its own chain is weak due to the poor memory of Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla; however, Imam al-Dhahabi in "al-Talkhis" declared it the best (ajwad) of all the routes of this hadith.
أبو أحمد الزبيري: هو محمد بن عبد الله بن الزبير، وسفيان: هو الثوري.
Important point: Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri mentioned in the chain is Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr, and Sufyan is Imam Sufyan al-Thawri.
وأخرجه أحمد 38/ (23592)، وأخرجه الترمذي (2880) عن محمد بن بشار، كلاهما (أحمد وابن بشار) عن أبي أحمد الزبيري، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in (38/ 23592) and Imam al-Tirmidhi in (2880) by way of Muhammad bin Bashshar. Both of them (Imam Ahmad and Ibn Bashshar) narrate it from Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri with this chain.
وأخرجه أحمد (23593) من طريق محمد بن إسحاق، عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلي، به.
