It is narrated from Urwah bin al-Zubayr, concerning the names of the Companions who took part in the Pledge of al-Aqabah, that from Banu Ghanm bin Malik bin al-Najjar was Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name is Khalid bin Zayd bin Kulayb. Likewise, among the names of the Companions from Banu al-Najjar who took part in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) is also mentioned, whose full name is Khalid bin Zayd bin Kulayb bin Tha'labah.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: In manuscript (S) and manuscript (M) this name was distorted and written as "Qilabah", whereas the correct name is "Abu 'Ulathah" (with a dammah on the 'ayn and a fathah on the tha'); his name is Muhammad bin Khalid al-Harrani, who later moved to Egypt.
Note / Clarification: In all the manuscripts the word was distorted and wrongly written as "an".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in its narrators except 'Abd Allah bin Lahi'ah, about whose memory there is scholarly criticism (maqal). He had the "al-Maghazi" of 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr by way of Abu al-Aswad (Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman, known as the orphan of 'Urwah). The apparent indications show that it was a written scroll (sahifah) with him, which he had recorded precisely from Abu al-Aswad, and the author (al-Hakim) narrated dozens of reports from this very scroll on knowledge of the Companions and their merits.
