أخبرني أبو الحُسين عُبيد الله بن محمد البَلْخي ببغداد، حدثنا أبو إسماعيل محمد بن إسماعيل، حدثنا سعيد بن أبي مريم، حدثنا نافع بن يزيد، حدثني جعفر بن ربيعة، عن عُبيد الله (2) بن عبد الرحمن بن السائب، أنَّ عبد الحميد بن عبد الرحمن بن أزْهَر حدَّثَه عن أبيه عبد الرحمن بن أزْهَرَ، أَنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "إنما مَثَلُ العَبدِ حين يُصيبُه الوَعْكُ والحُمَّى كَمَثَلِ حَديدةٍ أُدخِلَتِ النارَ، فيذهَبُ خَبَثُها ويَبقى طِيبُها" (3). ذكرُ مناقب عبدِ الله بن عَدِيّ بن الحَمْراء الثَّقَفِي ﵁ -

Abd al-Hamid bin Abd al-Rahman bin Azhar narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Azhar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the example of the believing servant when fever and its heat afflict him is like that of iron put into fire: its dross (khabath) is removed and its pure essence remains."

(2) تحرَّف في نسخنا الخطية إلى: عبد الله، بالتكبير، والتصويب من مصادر ترجمته، حيث ذكروه في باب من اسمه عُبيد الله، مصغّرًا.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this is corrupted into "Abd Allah", in the full (non-diminutive) form. The correction is from the sources of his biography, where they mention him in the section of those named "Ubayd Allah", in the diminutive form.
(3) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسنٌ كما تقدَّم بيانه برقم (248). محمد بن إسماعيل: هو أبو إسماعيل التِّرمذي.
Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (sahih by virtue of other reports), and this chain is "hasan", as has been explained at number (248). Muhammad bin Isma'il is Abu Isma'il al-Tirmidhi.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 34/ 185 من طريق محمد بن عبد الله بن إبراهيم البغدادي، عن محمد بن إسماعيل الترمذي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (34/185) through the route of Muhammad bin Abd Allah bin Ibrahim al-Baghdadi, from Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Tirmidhi, with this chain.
