It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin al-Fakih (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I said to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Abu Kharijah!"

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this name has been corrupted into "'Utbah", while the correct form is the one recorded from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (as in the al-Mayman edition), in agreement with the sources for the biographies of his son Abd al-Rahman and his father al-Fakih. See: "Tahdhib al-Kamal" (17/289 and 23/136).

Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is that Abd al-Rahman (Ibn 'Uqbah bin al-Fakih) and his father are majhul (unknown). Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi is 'Umayr bin Yazid al-Ansari, and 'Ubaydullah bin Sa'id is Abu Qudamah al-Sarakhsi.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Ahmad al-Hakim in "al-Asami wa al-Kuna" (4/369), and through his route by Ibn 'Asakir (19/300); and by Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (2893), and through his route by Ibn 'Asakir (19/301), via Abu Hamid bin Jabalah. Both of them narrate it from Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Thaqafi with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (4738) through the route of Musaddad bin Musarhad, from Yahya bin Sa'id, from 'Uqbah bin Fakih, who said: I went out to Zayd bin Thabit, and he came out to me wearing a waist-wrapper with a spear in his hand. I said: O Abu Kharijah, what is the spear for at this hour? He said: I was looking for this wicked creature for whose killing Allah records a good deed and erases a bad deed, and it is the gecko (wazagh).
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated this story in "al-Musannaf" (5/401) from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan with this same chain, but without mentioning the kunyah of Zayd bin Thabit.
