Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5881

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا العباس بن محمد الدُّورِي، حدثنا أحمد بن جَنَاب، حدثنا عيسى بن يونس، عن سعيد بن عثمان البَلَوي، عن عاصم بن أبي البَدّاح بن عاصم بن عَدي، عن أبيه، عن جده عاصم بن عَدِيّ، قال: اشتَريتُ أنا وأخي مئة سَهمٍ من سِهام خَيبَر، فبلَغَ ذلك النبيَّ ﷺ، فقال: "يا عاصمُ، ما ذئبانِ عادِيَانِ أصابا فَرِيسةَ غَنَمٍ أضاعَها ربُّها، بأفسَدَ فيها من حُبِّ المالِ والشَّرَفِ لِدِينِه" (3). الحديثُ المشهورُ (1) لعاصمٍ عن رسول الله ﷺ هو الذي:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Asim bin Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: My brother and I bought one hundred shares of the shares of Khaybar. When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Asim! Two hungry wolves attacking a flock of sheep whose owner is absent do not cause that flock as much harm as love of wealth and the pursuit of status cause to a person's religion."

(3) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لجهالة عاصم بن أبي البدّاح وسعيد بن عثمان البَلَوي، ومع ذلك فقد حسَّن إسنادَه الهيثمي في "مجمع الزوائد" 10/ 250. عيسى بن يونس: هو ابن أبي إسحاق السَّبيعي. وأخرجه البيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (9791) عن أبي بكر أحمد بن الحسن ومحمد بن موسى، عن أبي العباس محمد بن يعقوب، بهذا الإسناد.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", while the present chain is da'if due to the unknown status (jahalah) of Asim bin Abi al-Baddah and Sa'id bin Uthman al-Balawi. Despite that, al-Haythami declared its chain "hasan" in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (10/ 250). Isa bin Yunus is Ibn Abi Ishaq al-Sabi'i.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9791) via Abu Bakr Ahmad bin al-Hasan and Muhammad bin Musa, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub, with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن أبي خيثمة في السفر الثاني من "تاريخه" (2898)، وأخرجه أبو نُعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (5372) من طريق محمد بن غالب، كلاهما (ابن أبي خيثمة ومحمد بن غالب) عن أحمد بن جناب، به.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Khaythamah narrated it in the second volume of his "Tarikh" (2898), and Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (5372) via Muhammad bin Ghalib. Both of them narrate it from Ahmad bin Janab with this chain.
وأخرجه ابن أبي خيثمة أيضًا (2898)، وابن أبي عاصم في "الآحاد والمثاني" (1950) عن أبي سفيان عبد الرحمن بن مطرِّف، والطبراني في "الكبير" 17/ (459)، وفي "الأوسط" (5317) و (8166)، وأبو نعيم في "المعرفة" (5372) وضياء الدين المقدسي في "المختارة" 8/ (195) من طريق عُمر بن زرارة الحَدَثي، كلاهما عن عيسى بن يونس السبيعي، به.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Khaythamah (2898) and Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (1950) narrated it via Abu Sufyan Abd al-Rahman bin Mutarrif; and al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (17/ 459) and "al-Awsat" (5317 and 8166), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Ma'rifah" (5372) and Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (8/ 195) via Umar bin Zurarah al-Hadathi. Both of them narrate it from Isa bin Yunus al-Sabi'i with this chain.
ويشهد له حديث كعب بن مالك عند أحمد 25/ (15784) و (15794)، والترمذي (2376)، والنسائي (11796)، وابن حبان (3228). وإسناده صحيح، وانظر تمام شواهده في "المسند".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of Ka'b bin Malik, which is in Ahmad (25/ 15784 and 15794), al-Tirmidhi (2376), al-Nasa'i (11796) and Ibn Hibban (3228), and its chain is sahih. See its complete supporting reports in "al-Musnad".
