It is narrated from Abdullah bin Miknaf that Sayyiduna Khawwat bin Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was among those who set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) towards Badr. When they reached al-Rawha, the sharp point of a stone struck him and his bone was broken, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him back to Madinah and allotted him a share (of the spoils) and a reward; so he was just as if he had been present in the battle himself. The narrators have stated that Khawwat (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in the battles of Uhud and the Trench and in all the battles with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The speaker is Muhammad bin Umar, and he is "al-Waqidi".
Grading: It is "hasan li-ghayrihi", and both of these narrations are "mursal". Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (3/ 442) from Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi with these same two chains of his. Reference / Source: It is in "Maghazi al-Waqidi" (1/ 160) in brief wording: "And Khawwat bin Jubayr bin al-Nu'man broke (his leg) at al-Rawha'. Abd al-Malik bin Abi Sulayman narrated that to me from Khawwat bin Salih." Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Something similar to what al-Waqidi narrated in the story of Khawwat's injury is also narrated from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, which al-Khattabi cited in "Gharib al-Hadith" (1/ 399). There is no harm in its men, but it too is "mursal". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Likewise something similar is narrated from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Umarah in Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi's "al-Sahabah" (2/ 275). Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Umarah is among those who narrate from the Atba' al-Tabi'in. Important point: As for his being allotted a share and reward on the day of Badr, that was also mentioned by Urwah bin al-Zubayr and Ibn Ishaq, as has passed with the author (al-Hakim).
