Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if due to "inqita'" (a break in the chain), since Zayd bin Aslam did not meet Khawwat bin Jubayr.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari narrated it "mu'allaq" (without a connected chain) in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (3/ 316-317) from Yahya bin Musa al-Balkhi; al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (4146), and via him Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (2513) and Ibn al-Athir in "Usd al-Ghabah" (1/ 625-626), via al-Jarrah bin Makhlad; and Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (626) from Abdullah bin al-Haytham al-Abdi. All three narrate it from Wahb bin Jarir with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani also narrated it (4146), and via him Abu Nu'aym in "al-Ma'rifah" (2513) and Ibn al-Athir (1/ 625-626), via Dawud bin Mansur al-Qadi from Jarir bin Hazim.
Details of the narration: All of them related this hadith within a long story of Khawwat bin Jubayr, but the author (al-Hakim), and before him Imam al-Bukhari, confined themselves to only this portion of it, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Khawwat by his kunyah.
