Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5845

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Uhud Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Hold this sword of mine; indeed, today I have struck mighty blows with it." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you have fought well with it, then indeed Asim bin Thabit, Sahl bin Hunayf and al-Harith bin al-Simmah (may Allah be pleased with them) have also fought excellently."

Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi", while the present chain is da'if (weak).

Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (5564) from Umar bin Hafs al-Sadusi with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: However, the mention of Abu Umamah bin Sahl has dropped out of the printed edition.
Reference / Source: Ahmad bin Mani' narrated it in his "Musnad" (as in Ibn Hajar's "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah" 4270/ 1) from Husayn bin Muhammad; and Abu Ya'la in "al-Musnad al-Kabir" (as in "al-Matalib" 4270/ 2) from Muhammad bin Bakkar. Both of them narrate it from Abu Ma'shar with this chain.
