(1) " (2). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I passed by a stream of rainwater, so I went into it and bathed. When I came out of it, I had a fever. This reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Thabit to give charity."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: It is like this in the manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak", but it is an old corruption (tahrif). Al-Dhahabi attributed it to al-Hakim with this same word in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (2/ 326), but the correct word is what is in all the source works, namely: "fal-yata'awwadh" (let him seek refuge).
Grading: Because of "al-Rabab", the grandmother of Uthman bin Hakim, this chain can be regarded as "hasan". Reference / Source: Ahmad (25/ 15978) narrated it from Yunus bin Muhammad, with this same chain. The wording is: "yata'awwadh" (let him seek refuge), with this addition: I said: "My master, is ruqyah (incantation) sound?" He said: "There is no ruqyah except for the evil eye (nafs), the sting of a venomous creature (humah) or a bite (ladghah)." Note / Clarification: "Al-nafs" means being struck by the evil eye, and "al-ta'awwudh" means performing ruqyah. "Al-humah" means the sting of venomous vermin such as the scorpion. Reference / Source: Ahmad (15978) and al-Nasa'i (10015) narrated it by way of Affan bin Muslim, and al-Nasa'i (10806) by way of al-Mu'alla bin Asad. Both of them narrate from Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad, with this same chain, and they too added the same addition as Yunus (in Ahmad's narration). Note / Clarification: This narration, with this addition, will come at number (8475) by way of Musaddad, who narrates from Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad. Important point: It is established from narrations other than this hadith that the cause of Sahl bin Hunayf's harm while bathing was that he had a handsome, fair body, so Amir bin Rabi'ah struck him with the evil eye. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Amir to wash (his limbs) for him, and the water was poured over Sahl and he was cured. This narration will come at number (5847) and after it, and it is a sahih hadith.
