Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5830

It is narrated from Ata al-Khurasani that people were talking about Hajj, and they asked Sayyiduna Uways al-Qarani (may Allah be pleased with him): "Have you not performed Hajj?" He said: "No." They asked: "Why?" But he remained silent. Then one of them said: "I have a mount (you may take it)." Another said: "I have provisions for the journey." And a third said: "I have travel equipment." So he accepted their offer and performed Hajj with the means they provided.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it has a break (inqita'), because Ata' al-Khurasani (Ibn Abi Muslim) did not meet Uways al-Qarani.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Jabir refers to Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid bin Jabir al-Azdi al-Dimashqi, and Abu Ya'la refers to Ahmad bin Ali bin al-Muthanna (the author of the "Musnad").
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Khaythamah narrated it in the third volume (al-sifr al-thalith) of his "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (4522), and by his route Abu al-Abbas al-Mustaghfiri in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (13) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (9/ 429), via Harun bin Ma'ruf, from Damrah bin Rabi'ah, from Uthman bin Ata' bin Abi Muslim al-Khurasani, from his father, within a lengthy report.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, in it Uways himself expressed the wish to perform Hajj, saying: "If I had provisions and a mount, I would perform Hajj", so one man said: I have a mount, and another said: I have provisions. Bear in mind that Uthman bin Ata' is "da'if" (weak) by agreement.
