It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhayb bin Sinan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication: 'Allahumma innaka lasta bi-ilahin istahdathnahu, wa la bi-rabbin ibtada'nahu, wa la kana lana qablaka min ilahin nalja'u ilayhi wa nadharuk, wa la a'anaka 'ala khalqina ahadun fa-nushrikahu fik, tabarakta wa ta'alayt' (O Allah, You are not a deity whom we have newly contrived, nor a lord whom we have invented; nor did we have any god before You to whom we would turn for refuge and leave You; nor did anyone help You in creating us so that we should make him a partner with You. You are Blessed and Exalted). Ka'b al-Ahbar says that the Prophet of Allah, Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him), also used to make this supplication.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The name of Dawud (peace be upon him) had dropped out, and it must be mentioned in agreement with the other sources.
Grading: Its chain is utterly ruined (talif). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is Amr bin al-Husayn al-Uqayli, who is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith), and he is also alone in narrating this report, as Abu Nu'aym said in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (6/ 47). Fudayl bin Sulayman is "layyin al-hadith" (soft, i.e. weak). Although Amr bin al-Husayn is corroborated by Amr bin Malik al-Rasibi, he is of the same (weak) kind, so his corroboration carries no weight. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (7300) and "al-Du'a" (1450), and from him Abu Nu'aym in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (1/ 155, 373 and 6/ 47), via Ibrahim bin Hashim al-Baghawi; and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (17/ 108) by way of Muhammad bin Ayyub al-Bajali (Ibn al-Durays). Both of them narrate from Amr bin al-Husayn, with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, Ibn al-Durays named the Successor "Abd Allah bin Mu'attib" instead of "Abd al-Rahman bin Mughith". Reference / Source: Abu al-Shaykh narrated it in "al-Azamah" (114), and from him Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (1/ 155), by way of Amr bin Malik al-Rasibi, from Fudayl bin Sulayman, from Musa bin Uqbah, from Ata' bin Abi Marwan al-Aslami, from his father, from Ka'b, from Suhayb. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Bear in mind that Amr bin Malik is also a "matruk" (abandoned) narrator. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), found in Yahya bin Sallam's "Tafsir" (1/ 170) and al-Bayhaqi's "al-Da'awat al-Kabir" (70) by two routes, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say this supplication when he finished the two rak'ahs of Fajr. Grading: But this narration is "wahin" (very weak).
