Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5771

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: There was something (unpleasant) between me and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), so I complained about him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever reviles Ammar, Allah reviles him; and whoever shows enmity to Ammar, Allah shows enmity to him."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its narrators are trustworthy (thiqat), but "al-Ashtar" is alone in narrating it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Ashtar is Malik bin al-Harith al-Nakha'i, who was one of the nobles (ashraf), but Imam Ahmad was asked: "Is narration to be taken from him?" and he said: "No." The narrator "Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi" is Sulayman bin Dawud.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (8212) recorded it via Mahmud bin Ghaylan from Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: This narration is coming with the author (al-Hakim) later at number (5777) through the route of Amr bin Marzuq (who narrates from Shu'bah).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (28/ 16821) recorded it through the route of Muhammad bin Ja'far from Shu'bah, but he said: From al-Ashtar, who said: "There was (a dispute) between Ammar and Khalid bin al-Walid …" and so he mentioned it as "mursal". See also the narrations that come after it.
