Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and (M) this word has been corrupted and written as "al-Abdi".
Note / Clarification: The word "turhadu" means: to sweat, i.e. that much sweat comes onto your forehead because of some pain or ailment.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z), (S) and (M) this word has been written as "turhadu", which is a corruption; the correct word came in manuscript (B). The root word is "al-dahd", which means slipping, i.e.: you slipped in your urine.
Grading: This narration is sahih, except for the part that mentions the presence of Amr bin al-As and his son Abd Allah at the building of the Prophet's Mosque.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The mosque was built upon his (peace and blessings be upon him) arrival in Medina right after the Hijrah, whereas Amr bin al-As accepted Islam shortly before the Conquest of Mecca (as in the narration of Ibn Ishaq that passed earlier at number 5377 with the author (al-Hakim)). That is why al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "This, as you see, is a mistake; where were Amr and his son on the day the mosque was built?!" The narrator Ata' was declared weak by Abu Dawud. In our view he is "mudtarib al-hadith" (inconsistent in hadith), and the trustworthy students of al-A'mash contradicted him. None of their narrations mentions the presence of Amr and his son, except the narration of Asbat bin Muhammad from al-A'mash (as will come below), and Asbat was prone to errors. The narrator "Ishaq" is Ibn Rahawayh.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 551), and through his route Ibn Asakir (43/ 414), from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (14327) from Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Rahawayh, from his father, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in his "Tarikh" (5/ 40-41) through the route of al-Walid bin Salih al-Dabbi al-Nakhkhas from Ata' bin Muslim.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (11/ 6499 and 6927) and al-Nasa'i (8499) recorded it through the route of Abu Mu'awiyah; and Ahmad (6500 and 6926) and al-Nasa'i (8500) through the route of Sufyan al-Thawri. Both of them (Abu Mu'awiyah and Sufyan) narrate from al-A'mash, from Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad (so said Abu Mu'awiyah, while al-Thawri said Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Ziyad), from Abd Allah bin al-Harith, who said: "I was walking between Mu'awiyah and Amr bin al-As as Mu'awiyah was returning from Siffin." then he mentioned something similar, but it does not mention the building of the mosque. And its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Likewise al-Nasa'i (8498) recorded it through the route of Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid, from al-A'mash, from Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad, from Abd Allah bin Amr bin al-As.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But he did not mention the link "Abd Allah bin al-Harith bin Nawfal" in this chain, whereas what is correct is that he is mentioned.
Reference / Source: However, Abu Ya'la (7351), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (14246, 19/ 758 and 759) and Ibn Asakir in his "Tarikh" (43/ 413) recorded it through the route of Asbat bin Muhammad, who narrates from al-A'mash, from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Ziyad, from Abd Allah bin al-Harith. This narration is just like the narration of Ata' bin Muslim from al-A'mash found with the author (in which the mosque is mentioned).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But Asbat differed from Ata' in the chain and agreed with Abu Mu'awiyah and al-Thawri (in the names of the chain). Note, however, that Asbat was prone to errors.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (6538 and 6929) and al-Nasa'i (8496) recorded it through the route of Hanzalah bin Khuwaylid al-Anazi, who said: I was with Mu'awiyah when two men came to him disputing over the head of Ammar, each of them saying: I killed him. At this Abd Allah bin Amr said: Let one of you willingly concede it to his companion (i.e. spare himself this crime), for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The transgressing party will kill him (Ammar)." Mu'awiyah said: Then why are you with us? He replied: My father complained about me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Obey your father as long as he is alive and do not disobey him." So I am with you (on the field), but I am not fighting.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan", and it too does not mention the building of the mosque.
Note / Clarification: See the preceding discussion.
Important point: In short, the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying this to Ammar bin Yasir at the time of the building of the mosque (that "Alas, son of Sumayyah! The transgressing party will kill you") is established and authentic, but it is established from the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, as has passed with the author at number (2685). As for the hadith of Abd Allah bin Amr bin al-As and his father, it is not established from them on this occasion (the building of the mosque). And Allah knows best.
