Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5759

It is narrated from Lu'lu'ah, the slave-girl of Umm al-Hakam, the daughter of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), that on the day Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, the banner was held by Abu Hashim bin Utbah. By the time of Asr that day, many of the companions of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had been killed. Then Sayyiduna Ammar advanced and saw that Abu Hashim was ahead of him. At that time the sun was close to setting, and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) had with him milk mixed with water (dayh), and he was waiting for the sun to set in order to break his fast. As soon as the sun set, he drank that milk and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Your last provision from this world will be a draught of milk." The narrator said: Then he advanced and fought until he was martyred, and at that time he was ninety-four years old.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (3/ 171-172) recorded it from Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi, with this same chain.
Important point: But there the wording is: "Hashim bin Utbah was carrying the banner", and that is what is correct, as will come at numbers (5792) and (5796).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The marfu' part of this hadith has a supporting report (shahid) in the narration of Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf, which is coming with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5772), and its chain is sahih.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is from the mursal narration of Abu al-Bakhtari, which is also coming with the author at number (5773), and its narrators are trustworthy (thiqat).
Note / Clarification: "al-dayh" and "al-dayah" mean: thick milk into which water is poured and mixed.
