(1). Ibn Ishaq states that Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir, his father and his mother were a wholly Muslim household. Banu Makhzum used to inflict severe torment on them (as punishment for accepting Islam), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O family of Yasir! Be patient, for Paradise is what you have been promised." The narrator said: The name of the mother of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir was Sumayyah bint Salm bin Lakhm.

(5770). Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrih" (hasan due to supporting evidence). Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in the narrators of the present chain (la ba'sa bihim), but it is "mursal". However, this hadith is coming later at number (5770) with a complete connected chain (musnad). Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (1515) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain, but there the wording is: "From Ibn Ishaq, who said: Some men of the family of Ammar bin Yasir narrated to me …" then he mentioned the whole report. Reference / Source: Likewise Ibn al-Athir recorded it in "Usd al-Ghabah" (3/ 628) via Ridwan bin Ahmad al-Saydalani from Ahmad bin Abd al-Jabbar, with this same chain. Reference / Source: This report is in Ibn Hisham's "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" (1/ 319-230), from his narration via Ziyad bin Abd Allah al-Bakka'i from Ibn Ishaq. It is just like the narration of the author (al-Hakim) here, except that it does not mention the men of the family of Ammar.
