Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (4) Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan) on account of Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin 'Uthman (al-'Absi, their client); he is "wahin" (very weak), as al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis".
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it 7/ 57, Ibn Abi Shaybah in his "Musnad" (as in "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah" (2799)), Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (669) and (3206), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 25/ (459), and Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (634) and (8101), through various routes from Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Qani' narrated it in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" 3/ 18 via the route of Yahya bin Bishr al-Hariri, and Abu Nu'aym (638) via the route of 'Ali bin al-Ja'd. Both of them narrate it from Abu Shaybah, he from Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman (the client of the family of Talhah), he from Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Talhah, and he from the wet-nurse (zi'r) of his father Muhammad bin Talhah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here "Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Talhah" is mentioned instead of 'Isa bin Talhah.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated in his "Musnad" 29/ (17896), with a sahih chain up to 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, a story in which Muhammad bin Talhah said to 'Umar bin al-Khattab: "By Allah, no one named me Muhammad except Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." 'Umar said: "I have no way (right) to change something that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) named." And in al-Bukhari's "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 1/ 16 and "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" 1/ 578 there is an indication that the one who told this to 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla was "Muhammad bin Talhah" himself.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, there is disagreement about his kunyah. It is said that his kunyah was "Abu Sulayman" and that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him this kunyah, saying to his father Talhah: "I will not combine for him my name and my kunyah", as in a narration of Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Talhah found with Ibn Sa'd 7/ 57, Abu Ahmad al-Hakim in "al-Kuna" 5/ 99 and others.
Grading: And this (narration) is more authentic (asahh) than the narration of Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin 'Uthman.
