Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5671

It is narrated from Humayd bin Munhib that he said: I performed Hajj in the year in which Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred. I met Sayyiduna Talhah, Sayyiduna al-Zubayr and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with them) in Makkah. When they set off for Basrah, I went with them as well. Then Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came out against them until the two sides met, and that was the day of the Battle of the Camel. On that day there was fierce fighting between the two sides, and on that day seventy men took hold of the nose-rein of the camel (of Sayyidah Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her). (The narrator mentioned the lengthy hadith and) at its end he said: Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) turned his back and departed (from the battlefield), and a man from Banu Tamim, Ibn Jurmuz, caught up with him and martyred him.

Note / Clarification: (4) In the manuscripts this is corrupted into "'Umar bin"; it has been corrected from the two earlier places (numbers 5382 and 5504), where the author (al-Hakim) narrated two other reports with this chain, and this is a well-known nuskhah (written collection).
