أخبرني أبو بكر بن أبي دارِم الحافظ بالكُوفة، حَدَّثَنَا مُطَيَّن، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن العلاء أبو كُريب، حَدَّثَنَا قَبِيصةُ، حَدَّثَنَا سفيان، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عَقِيل، عن جابر أو أنس، قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "لَصَوتُ أبي طَلْحَةَ في الجَيش خَيرٌ من ألفِ رَجُلٍ" (2). لم نكتبه إلّا (3) بهذا الإسناد، ورواتُه عن آخرِهم ثقاتٌ، وإنما يُعرَفُ هذا المتنُ من حديث علي بن زيد بن جُدْعان عن أنس:

Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil narrates from Sayyiduna Jabir or Anas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The voice of Abu Talhah in the army is better than a thousand men."
We have recorded it only with this chain, and all of its narrators, from first to last, are trustworthy (thiqah). However, this text is known from the hadith of Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him):

(2) حديث صحيح، وأبو بكر بن أبي دارم الكوفي متابع، وعبد الله بن محمد بن عَقِيل يُحسَّن له في المتابعات والشواهد، وقد توبع أيضًا. مُطيَّن: هو محمد بن عبد الله بن سليمان الحضرمي، وقَبِيصة: هو ابن عُقبة السُّوائي، وسفيان: هو ابن سعيد الثوري.
Grading: This is a "sahih" hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abu Bakr bin Abi Darim is corroborated (mutaba'ah) in it, and the hadith of Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin 'Aqil is graded "hasan" in corroborations.
Important point: Mutayyan is "Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Hadrami", Qabisah is "Qabisah bin 'Uqbah", and Sufyan is "Sufyan al-Thawri".
وأخرجه ابن سعد 3/ 468 - ومن طريقه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 19/ 410 - والسَّريُّ بن يحيى في "حديث سفيان الثوري" (25)، والحارث بن أبي أسامة كما في "بغية الباحث" للهيثمي (1022) عن قبيصة بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (3/ 468), Ibn 'Asakir (19/ 410), al-Sari bin Yahya and al-Harith bin Abi Usamah narrated it from Qabisah with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن سعد 3/ 468 عن أبي أحمد محمد بن عبد الله الأسدي وأبو الشيخ في "أمثال الحديث" (197) من طريق أبي حذيفة موسى بن مسعود النَّهْدي، كلاهما عن سفيان الثوري، به. غير أنه في رواية أبي حذيفة قال: عن أنس، ولم يشُكّ.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it from Abu Ahmad al-Asadi, and Abu al-Shaykh in "Amthal al-Hadith" (197) via Abu Hudhayfah, both of them transmitting from Sufyan al-Thawri. In Abu Hudhayfah's narration, "from Anas" is mentioned without any doubt.
وأخرجه أحمد 20/ (13105) من طريق ثابت البُناني، عن أنس رفعه بلفظ: "الصوت أبي طلحة في الجيش أشد على المشركين من فئة"، وإسناده صحيح. والفئة: الجماعة من الناس.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (20/ 13105) narrated it via Thabit al-Bunani from Anas with the wording: "The voice of Abu Talhah in the army is harder on the idolaters than a whole group (fi'ah)".

(3) لفظة (إلّا) سقطت من (ز) و (ب)، وهي في (ص) و (م)، ولا بد منها ليصح سياق الكلام.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The word "illa" had dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B), while it is present in manuscripts (S) and (M), and it is necessary for the context of the passage to be correct.
Grading: This is a "sahih" hadith.
