It is narrated from Abu Rashid al-Hubrani that he said: I saw Sayyiduna al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), the guard of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), sitting in Hims on one of the chests of the money-changers; because of his size he was spilling over the chest (that is, his body was heavy), and he intended to go out for jihad. I said to him: "(Because of your age and weight) Allah Almighty has already excused you." He said: "Surah al-Buhuth (that is, Surah al-Tawbah) has refused to accept this excuse from us, (in which Allah says): 'Go forth, whether light or heavy.' [Surah al-Tawbah: 41]" The narrator Baqiyyah said that Surah al-Buhuth means Surah al-Tawbah.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
And I have already mentioned, at the beginning of the virtues of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), this hadith of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The first seven people who openly declared their Islam were the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, Ammar, his mother Sumayyah, Suhayb, Bilal and al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with them).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(3321). Grading: (1) This report is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports, on account of Baqiyyah bin al-Walid. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Baqiyyah bin al-Walid explicitly stated that he heard it, in sources other than the author's (al-Hakim's), so there is no concern about his tadlis. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: He is corroborated in what has passed with the author under numbers (2583) and (3321). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (290), and through him Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (1/ 176); and by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (20/ 556) from Ahmad bin Abd al-Wahhab bin Najdah al-Hawti. Both of them (Ibn Abi 'Asim and Ahmad bin Abd al-Wahhab) narrate it from Abd al-Wahhab bin Najdah with this chain. Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (10/ 139-140) from Sa'id bin 'Amr al-Sakuni, from Baqiyyah bin al-Walid.
(5321). Note / Clarification: (1) Rather, the author mentioned it among the virtues of Bilal bin Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him) under number (5321).
