قال ابن عُمر: حَدَّثَنَا موسى بن يعقوب، عن عَمَّتِه [عن أمّها] (2) كريمةَ بنت المِقداد: أنها وَصَفَتْ أباها لهم، فقالت: كان رجُلًا طوالًا، آدمَ، أَبْطَنَ، كثيرَ شَعر الرأسِ، يُصفِّرُ لِحْيتَه، وهي حَسَنةٌ ليست بالعَظيمةِ ولا بالخَفِيفَةِ، أَعْيَنَ مَقْرُونَ الحاجِبَين، أَقْنَى. قالت: ومات المقدادُ بالجُرْف على ثلاثة أميالٍ من المدينة، فحُمل على رِقاب الرجال، ودُفن بالمدينة، وصلَّى عليه عثمانُ بن عفّان، وذلك سنة ثلاثٍ وثلاثين، وكان يومَ ماتَ ابنَ سبعين سنةً أو نحوَها (3).
Ibn Umar (Muhammad bin Umar) states that Musa bin Ya'qub narrates from his paternal aunt, and she from her mother Karimah bint al-Miqdad, that she described the features of her father (al-Miqdad, may Allah be pleased with him) before the people and said: "He was tall, of a light brown complexion, with a large belly. The hair of his head was thick, and he used to dye his beard yellow; his beard was handsome, neither very thick nor very thin. His eyes were large, his eyebrows were joined together, and his nose was prominent." Karimah bint al-Miqdad further said: "Al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away at al-Juruf, three miles from Madinah; he was carried on the shoulders of men and buried in Madinah. Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer. This happened in the year thirty-three (33) AH, and on the day he died he was around seventy years of age."

(2) ما بين معقوفين سقط من النسخ الخطية، ولا بدَّ منه، وقد استدركناه من "طبقات ابن سعد" 3/ 150 - ونقله عنه الطبريُّ في "ذيل المذيّل" كما في "منتخبه" لعُريب القرطبي 11/ 506 - حيث روى ابن سعد هذا عن شيخه محمد بن عمر الواقدي بسنده هذا الذي هنا، ومن طريق ابن سعد أخرجه ابن عساكر 60/ 154 و 182.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) The text between the square brackets [ ] had dropped from the manuscripts, though it is indispensable. We restored it from "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (3/ 150) - and al-Tabari transmitted it from him in "Dhayl al-Mudhayyal", as in 'Arib al-Qurtubi's "Muntakhab" of it (11/ 506) - where Ibn Sa'd narrated it from his shaykh Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi with this same chain as here; and through Ibn Sa'd, Ibn 'Asakir recorded it (60/ 154 and 182).
(3) وأخرجه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 3/ 150، ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 60/ 154 و 182 عن محمد ابن عمر الواقدي، بهذا الإسناد. وعمة موسى: هي قُرَيبة بنت عبد الله بن وهب بن زَمْعة.

Important point: The paternal aunt of Musa is Quraybah bint Abd Allah bin Wahb bin Zam'ah.
آدَمُ: ذو سُمْرة شديدة.
Note / Clarification: "Adam": one of very dark (brown) complexion.
والأبطَنُ: عظيم البطن.
Note / Clarification: "Al-abtan": one with a large belly.
والأقنى: طول الأنف ورقّة أَرنبته مع حدب في وسطه.
Note / Clarification: "Al-aqna": one whose nose is long, thin at the tip, with a slight hump in its middle.
