It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri that he said: The name of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) is Jundub bin Junadah, and according to one view Burayr bin Junadah. He died at al-Rabadhah in the year 32 AH. There is disagreement about who led his funeral prayer: according to one view it was Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and according to another it was Jarir bin Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
58. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (4) In the manuscripts this name is corrupted into "Yazid". What we have established is "Burayr" (with a ba' carrying damma and two ra's, the diminutive of "barr"), and this is correct, because "Yazid" is not known among the disputed names of Abu Dharr; the disagreement is only whether his name is "Jundub" or "Burayr". Al-Hakim confined himself to these two names in his book "'Ulum al-Hadith" (p. 225). Ibn Makula in "al-Ikmal" (1/ 257) and al-Dhahabi in "al-Mushtabih" (p. 58) recorded it the same way.
Reference / Source: (1) Ibn Abd al-Barr said in "al-Isti'ab" (800): The most common and most correct view about him (Abu Dharr) is that his name is "Jundub bin Junadah". Reference / Source: We say: among those who stated categorically that Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) led the funeral prayer over Abu Dharr are Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir, Abu al-Hasan al-Mada'ini, Khalifah bin Khayyat and Ibn Sa'd. See Ibn 'Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" (66/ 175 and 222). This also came in a connected narration with the author (al-Hakim) which has passed under number (4421), but its chain is weak. Another, lengthy narration about his death will come under number (5559) without mention of Ibn Mas'ud, and its chain is hasan.
