It is narrated from Abu Ibrahim al-Tarjumani that he said: I saw an old man in Damascus who was called Ishaq Abu Harith, and he was a freed slave of Banu Habbar al-Qurashi. He said: "I saw Abu al-Darda Uwaymir bin Qays bin A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His eyes were dark with a reddish tinge and his nose was high-bridged, and he used to dye his hair with yellow. I saw on his head a small quilted cap, and he had a turban which he had thrown over his shoulders." Al-Abbas says: I heard a man who was with me ask Ishaq: "How long ago did you see him?" He said: "I saw him more than a hundred years ago. And he was wearing two socks and sandals." The narrator says: And at that time Ishaq's age had reached about one hundred and twenty years.
Chapter on the virtues of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: (3) Its chain is da'if (weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is because Ishaq Abu Harith, the freed slave of Banu Habbar (whose name is Ishaq bin Ibrahim), is majhul (unknown). His claim to have met Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) is not accepted, as al-Dhahabi explained in "al-Mizan" (1/ 189), and Ibn Hajar endorsed this in "Lisan al-Mizan" (2/ 53); so the narration is also munqati' (broken). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (5288) and Ibn 'Asakir (8/ 197 and 48/ 104-105) through several routes from Abu Ibrahim (whose name is Isma'il bin Ibrahim), with this chain. Note / Clarification: "Al-ashhal": one who has redness in the black of his eye. Note / Clarification: "Al-aqna": one whose nose is long, with a thin tip, and with a slight hump in its middle. Note / Clarification: "Yakhdibu bi-l-sufrah": that is, he dyed with a mixture of wars (a kind of plant) and saffron; this covers dyeing both hair and clothes. Note / Clarification: "Al-qalansuwah": a cap (a head covering). Note / Clarification: "Al-mudarrabah": stitched (quilted like a padded cover).
