Ibn Ishaq, while listing the names of those from Banu Jusham bin al-Harith and Zayd bin al-Harith (these two were twin brothers) who were present at the Battle of Badr and the Pledge of Aqabah, related that among them was Abdullah bin Zayd bin Abd Rabbih bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him). He is the one who was shown the call to prayer (adhan) in a dream; then he brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that it (the adhan) be put into practice.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: (2) It is in Ibn Hisham's "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" (1/ 459-692), except that he placed the mention of Tha'labah before Abd Rabbihi in the lineage. Ibn Hisham's narration of the Sirah is from Ziyad al-Bakka'i, from Ibn Ishaq. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The same (placing Tha'labah first) also came in the narration of Ibrahim bin Sa'd from Ibn Ishaq, in Abu Nu'aym's "al-Ma'rifah" (4155), and in the narration of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Umawi from Ibn Ishaq, in Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi's "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" just before hadith (1597). So this is what is "mahfuz" (preserved) from Ibn Ishaq in naming Abd Allah bin Zayd: that he is "Ibn Tha'labah bin Abd Rabbihi".
