Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5528

Mus'ab bin Abdullah relates that Abdullah bin al-Arqam bin Abd Yaghuth bin Uhayb bin Abd Manaf bin Zuhrah (this is his lineage); his mother was Amrah bint al-Arqam bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf. He had become blind before his death, and he died in the year 35 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) This is how Mus'ab bin Abdullah named the mother of Abdullah bin al-Arqam. But Ibn Sa'd (6/ 72) and Khalifah bin Khayyat in "al-Tabaqat" (p. 16) differed with him and said: His mother was "Umaymah bint Harb bin Abi Hamhamah bin Abd al-'Uzza bin 'Amir bin 'Umayrah". And Ibn Hibban differed with all of them in "al-Thiqat" (3/ 218) and said: His mother was "'Atikah bint 'Awf bin Abd 'Awf bin 'Abd bin al-Harith bin Zuhrah".
Note / Clarification: Regarding the death of Abdullah bin al-Arqam, Ibn al-Sakan mentioned (as found in al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "al-Isabah" 4/ 4) that he died during the caliphate of 'Uthman. Al-Bukhari also counted him in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (1/ 497) among those who died in the era of 'Uthman. This is not far from Mus'ab's statement here; perhaps he died shortly before 'Uthman in the same year, since 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred in the year 35 AH.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Hibban differed with them in "al-Thiqat" (3/ 218) and said: He died in Makkah on the day the news of the death of Yazid bin Mu'awiyah arrived, which was in Rabi' al-Awwal of the year 64 AH; Abdullah bin al-Zubayr led his funeral prayer, and he was 72 years old when he died. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in "al-Isabah" considered Ibn Hibban mistaken in fixing the year of his death, and al-Sakhawi followed him in "al-Tuhfah al-Latifah fi Tarikh al-Madinah al-Sharifah" (2/ 18).
