أخبرني أحمد بن يعقوب الثَّقفي، حدَّثنا موسى بن زكريا، حدَّثنا خليفة بن خَياط (1)، قال: مات عبد الله بن مسعود بالمدينة، وصلَّى عليه الزُّبير بن العوَّام.
Khalifah bin Khayyat narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in Madinah, and Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer.

(1) وقع في نسخنا الخطية: خلف بن خليفة، وهو خطأ، وإنما هو خليفة بن خياط صاحب "الطبقات" و "التاريخ"، وقد أكثر المصنف من النقل من كتاب "الطبقات" لخليفة بسنده هذا إليه. وهذا في "طبقاته" ص 16.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) In our manuscripts (the narrator's name) is written "Khalaf bin Khalifah", which is an error. The correct name is "Khalifah bin Khayyat", the author of "al-Tabaqat" and "al-Tarikh". The author (al-Hakim) (may Allah have mercy on him) quotes frequently from Khalifah's book "al-Tabaqat" with this same chain of his.
