Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "talif" (ruined, i.e. severely weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is Ibrahim bin 'Abd al-Aziz bin 'Umar (he is in fact Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Aziz, attributed here to his grandfather), and his father is also a cause of weakness; both of these narrators are "matruk" (abandoned, i.e. their narrations are discarded). Moreover, Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri also has some weakness (lin).
Note / Clarification: Al-Dhahabi's weakening this narration in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" only because of Ya'qub bin Muhammad is technically not sound (since the real defect is Ibrahim and his father).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (3237), al-Husayn bin Isma'il al-Mahamili in his "Amali" (in the transmission of Ibn Yahya al-Bayyi', 419), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (482), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (7531) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (35/ 280-281).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All of these narrations converge through various routes on Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (940), and by way of him Ibn 'Asakir (35/ 280), and by Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-'Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (434).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration is from 'Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Masarrah, from Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, from 'Abd al-Aziz bin 'Imran, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Humayd, with this chain. But in this chain "'Abd al-Aziz bin 'Imran" (he is Ibn 'Abd al-Aziz bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf) is mentioned in place of Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Aziz and his father, and 'Abd al-Aziz bin 'Imran is technically also a "matruk" (abandoned) narrator.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" (1/ 602), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (1187), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (3/ 270) and Ibn 'Asakir (35/ 279) narrated it through two routes via Sulayman bin Salim (the freed slave of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Humayd).
Details of the narration: It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Busrah bint Safwan and said: "Who will propose marriage to Umm Kulthum?" (and so on to the end of the hadith).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration is thus "mursal", and Umm Kulthum (the female Companion) is not mentioned in it as an intermediary. Furthermore, the hadith scholars agree on the weakness of Sulayman bin Salim (he is Sulayman bin Abi Dawud al-Harrani, nicknamed "Bumah", i.e. the owl), so this corroboration of his carries no weight.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir (35/ 280) narrated it by way of 'Umar bin Ayyub al-Ghifari.
Details of the narration: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqbah, the wife of 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to you, "Marry the leader of the Muslims, 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf"? She said: Yes.
Grading: In this chain 'Umar bin Ayyub is a "da'if jiddan" (very weak) narrator; indeed he is even accused of fabricating hadith. Also, 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abdullah bin Mujammi' is not known in any narration other than this report, so he is "majhul" (unknown).
Reference / Source: Abu Bakr al-Dinawari narrated it in "al-Mujalasah" (377), and via him Ibn 'Asakir (35/ 279), by way of Sufyan (bin 'Uyaynah).
Details of the narration: Ibn Abi Najih said that 'Umar bin al-Khattab used to come to Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqbah and say to her (as in the previous narration).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although all the narrators of this chain are "thiqah", the chain is "mu'dal" (two or more consecutive narrators dropped), because Ibn Abi Najih only reached the era of the junior Successors (so he could not narrate directly from 'Umar or Umm Kulthum).
