Ya'qub narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) used to be called the "Hawari" (special devoted companion) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: (3) It is with Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (481), and by way of him Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (35/ 282) from Abu Hamid bin Jabalah, from Muhammad bin Ishaq (he is al-Thaqafi al-Sarraj, Abu al-'Abbas), with this chain. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn 'Asakir (20/ 220) by way of Abu al-Tayyib Muhammad bin Ja'far al-Zarrad, from Abu al-Fadl 'Ubaydullah bin Sa'd (he is Ibn Ibrahim bin Sa'd bin Ibrahim bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf), from his paternal uncle Ya'qub bin Ibrahim bin Sa'd, from his father Ibrahim bin Sa'd, from his father Sa'd, and he mentioned it. Important point: So he added in it the mention of "Sa'd bin Ibrahim", and this Sa'd is a junior Successor. Important point: The well-known view is that the "hawari" (special helper) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself described him. The evidence for this is the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Reference / Source: Sahih al-Bukhari (2846), Sahih Muslim (2415) and other books. Details of the narration: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every prophet has a hawari, and my hawari is al-Zubayr."
