حدثنا أبو محمد أحمد بن عبد الله المُزَني، حدثنا أبو خليفة القاضي، حدثنا أبو الوليد هشام بن عبد الملك، حدثنا عبد العزيز بن محمد، عن زيد بن أسلم، عن عطاء بن يَسَار، عن ابن عباس: أنَّ النبي ﷺ توضأ مرةً مرةً، وجَمَعَ بين المضمضة والاستنشاق (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرطهما، ولم يُخرجا الجمع بين المضمضة والاستنشاق (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) washed (the limbs) once each in ablution, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) combined rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose (with a single handful).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Bukhari and Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record the mention of combining rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose.

Grading: Its chain is qawi (strong).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The name "Abu Khalifah" refers to al-Fadl bin al-Hubab.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (1076) عن الفضل بن الحباب أبي خليفة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban narrated it (1076) through Abu Khalifah al-Fadl bin al-Hubab, with this same chain.
وأخرجه البخاري (140) مطوَّلًا من طريق سليمان بن بلال، عن زيد بن أسلم، به. ولفظه فيه: أخذ غرفةً من ماء فمضمض بها واستنشق. وهو من هذا الطريق عند أحمد 4/ (2416)، وانظر تمام تخريجه فيه.

Details of the narration: The wording of al-Bukhari is: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of water, rinsed his mouth with it and put water into his nose."
وأخرجه بنحوه أحمد 3/ (2072)، والبخاري (157)، وأبو داود (138)، وابن ماجه (411)، والترمذي (42)، والنسائي (85)، وابن حبان (1095) من طريق سفيان الثوري، وأحمد 5/ (3113) من طريق معمر، كلاهما عن زيد بن أسلم به - دون قوله: وجمع بين المضمضة والاستنشاق.

(1) هذه الفِقْرة سقطت من (ب) والمطبوع. وقول الحاكم هذا مردود بتخريج البخاري للجمع بينهما كما سبق.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This passage is missing from manuscript (B) and the printed edition, and Imam al-Hakim's statement that "combining the rinsing of the mouth and putting water into the nose is not mentioned" is rejected, because Imam al-Bukhari has recorded it, as has already passed.
