Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi". The narrators of this chain are thiqah, but Abu Isma'il al-Mu'addib (Ibrahim bin Sulayman bin Razin, who is thiqah) is alone in narrating it as "mawsul" (connected).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He was contradicted by Abd Allah bin Idris and Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi (both of them thiqah and hafiz), who narrated it from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, from al-Sha'bi, as "mursal", without mention of Abd Allah bin Abi Awfa. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih as connected, and Ibn Hajar called it hasan in "al-Amali al-Mutlaqah" (p. 54). But Abu Zur'ah al-Razi graded the "mursal" version as sahih (as cited in al-'Ilal of Ibn Abi Hatim, 2585), and al-Dhahabi preferred it in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak".
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (7091) recorded it via Abd Allah bin Awn al-Kharraz, from Abu Isma'il al-Mu'addib, with this same chain.

Reference / Source: The "mursal" narration of Abd Allah bin Idris is in Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-'Ilal" (2585), and the narration of Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi is in Ibn Sa'd (5/ 30).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Isma'il bin Abi Khalid has another shaykh in this hadith: "Qays bin Abi Hazim".
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (5/ 30, 9/ 339) recorded it from Ya'la bin Ubayd al-Tanafisi, his brother Muhammad bin Ubayd, and Abd Allah bin Numayr; and Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded it in his "al-Musnad al-Kabir" (as cited in al-Matalib al-'Aliyah, 4007) via Yahya bin Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah. All four of them narrate it from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, from Qays bin Abi Hazim, as "mursal".
Grading: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar called it "sahih al-isnad" (authentic in chain) in "al-Matalib".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He graded its chain sahih because Qays is a senior Successor and a mukhadram (one who lived in both the Jahiliyyah and Islam), and one like him takes only from a Companion. Indeed, Qays met Khalid bin al-Walid and heard from him, and he also heard from senior Companions such as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them).
