Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 538

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, he would comb through his beard.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This is "hasan li-ghayrihi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): If it is established that Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah bin Kariz heard it from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), then this chain is qawi (strong); for Talhah is a contemporary of Imam al-Zuhri, and their generation is too young to narrate directly from 'A'ishah (they narrate only from Companions who died late).
Reference / Source: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared it hasan in "al-Talkhis al-Habir" (1/ 86).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (43/ 25970, 25971) through two routes from 'Umar bin Abi Wahb, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: In these narrations the words are: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) ran his fingers through his beard with water."
