Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr narrates that the mother of Khalid bin al-Walid bin al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Makhzum was Lubabah bint al-Harith bin Hazn al-Hilaliyyah, the sister of Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), the pure wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Khalid's kunya was Abu Sulayman. Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed him governor of al-Ruha, Harran, al-Raqqah and Amid. He remained in these posts for a year, then requested to be relieved, which Sayyiduna Umar accepted. So he came to Madinah and stayed in his house until he died in Madinah in the year 22 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) What Ibn Numayr said here contradicts what Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Hadrami narrated from him in al-Tabarani's "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (4/ 3814), namely that Khalid died in Hims in the year 21 AH, in agreement with the statement of al-Waqidi, which is the view of the majority. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Among those who mentioned that Khalid bin al-Walid died in Madinah is a group, including Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri (as will come at number 5385), even though his book "Nasab Quraysh" (p. 321) says that Khalid died in Syria (al-Sham)! Likewise Duhaym Abd al-Rahman bin Ibrahim al-Dimashqi stated decisively that he died in Madinah, but the correct view is that he died in Hims, as has passed.
