It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Khalaf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) in his lap and kissed him, then turned to the people and said: "Indeed, children are a cause of miserliness, cowardice, ignorance and grief (for a person)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) The one saying this is "Ishaq bin Ibrahim" (al-Dabari), the narrator of "al-Musannaf" from Abd al-Razzaq. So it is "mawsul" (connected) with the preceding chain.
3/ 261. Grading: (2) It is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (good due to supporting chains), and this chain, like the previous one, can possibly be graded hasan. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded it hasan in "Zawa'id Musnad al-Bazzar" (798), and al-Iraqi graded it sahih in "Takhrij Ahadith al-Ihya'" (3/ 261). Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (1891, Kashf al-Astar), Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (126) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (13/ 213) recorded it through several routes from Abd al-Razzaq, but without the words "mahzanah" (a cause of grief). Technical note / Defect ('illah): All of them said in their narrations "akhadha Hasanan" (he took hold of Hasan), that is, they mentioned "al-Hasan" instead of al-Husayn. Al-Dhahabi cited this report in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" in the biography of al-Hasan bin Ali. Important point: So what seems most likely in this hadith of Ma'mar from Ibn Khuthaym (Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym) is that it mentions "al-Hasan", not al-Husayn. Note / Clarification: However, it has already passed with the author at number (4827), from the hadith of Wuhayb bin Khalid (from Ibn Khuthaym, from Sa'id bin Abi Rashid, from Ya'la bin Munyah), mentioning both al-Hasan and al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them): that he (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced the two of them; then he mentioned the hadith, but without the words "majhalah" (a cause of ignorance).
