أخبرني أحمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا موسى بن زكريا، حدثنا خليفة بن خَيّاط، قال: شُرحبيل بن عبد الله بن المُطاع بن عَمرو (2) بن عبد العُزَّى (3)، وأمُّه حَسَنةُ، وولاؤها لمَعمَر (4) بن حَبيب، وتوفي شُرحبيل بن حَسَنة في طاعون عَمَواس سنة ثمانَ عشرةَ، وهو ابن سبع وستين سنةً (5).
The lineage of Shurahbil bin Abdullah is as follows: Shurahbil bin Abdullah bin al-Muta' bin Amr bin Abd al-Uzza. His mother was Hasanah, and her wala' (clientage) was with Ma'mar bin Habib. Shurahbil bin Hasanah died in the plague of Amwas in the year 18 AH, at the age of sixty-seven.

Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts this name was corrupted to "'Umar". The correction is from Khalifah's "al-Tabaqat" (pp. 295, 298).

Note / Clarification: (3) In the manuscripts this was corrupted to "'Abd al-'Aziz" (and in (Z) it was marked with a sign of doubt); the correction is from "al-Tabaqat".
(4) تحرَّف في (ص) إلى: لعمر، وفي (ز) و (م) و (ب) إلى: لعثمان. والتصويب من "الطبقات".
Note / Clarification: (4) In manuscript (S) it was corrupted to "li-'Umar", and in (Z, M, B) to "li-'Uthman". The correction is from "al-Tabaqat".
(5) وهو في "الطبقات" لخليفة بن خياط ص 298، دون ذكر وفاة شرحبيل وسنّه يوم مات.
Reference / Source: (5) This is in Khalifah bin Khayyat's "al-Tabaqat" (p. 298), but there is no mention there of Shurahbil's death or of his age.
لكن أخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 22/ 466 من طريق أبي حفص الأهوازي - وهو عمر بن أحمد بن إسحاق - عن خليفة بن خياط، فذكره، وذكر وفاة شرحبيل لكن دون سنِّه يوم مات. وما قيل في سنَّه أنه كان ابنَ سبع وستين، فهو قول ابن سعد أيضًا كما في "طبقاته الكبرى" 4/ 119، وقول ابن حبان في "ثقاته" 3/ 187، وأسنده أبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (3711) عن إبراهيم بن المنذر، و (3709) عن يحيى بن بُكَير.
Reference / Source: However, Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (22/ 466) by way of Abu Hafs al-Ahwazi ('Umar bin Ahmad bin Ishaq) from Khalifah bin Khayyat, and it mentions Shurahbil's death (but not his age).
Important point: What was said about his age, that he was "67 years" old, is also the view of Ibn Sa'd (al-Tabaqat al-Kubra 4/ 119) and of Ibn Hibban (al-Thiqat 3/ 187). Abu Nu'aym narrated it with a chain in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (3711) from Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir and (3709) from Yahya bin Bukayr.
