أخبرني أبو الحسين بن يعقوب الحافظ، أخبرنا الثَّقفي، حدثنا عُبيد الله بن سعْد الزُّهري، حدثنا عمِّي يعقوب بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن [ابن] (1) إسحاق، قال: الفضلُ بن عَبّاس بن عبد المُطّلب كنيتُه أبو محمد، وأمُّه أم الفَضْل، واسمها لُبَابة بنت الحارث، قُتِل في خلافة أبي بكر مع خالد بن الوليد (2). قد حدَّث العباسُ بن عبد المطلب وعبدُ الله بن عباس عن الفَضْل بن عباس. أما حديث أبيه العباس عنه:
Ibn Ishaq states that the kunyah of al-Fadl bin Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib was Abu Muhammad, and his mother was Umm al-Fadl, whose name was Lubabah bint al-Harith. He was martyred (while fighting in jihad) with the army of Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).

(1) لفظة "ابن" سقطت من النسخ الخطية، وإثباتها هو الصواب، لأنَّ المذكور هو محمد بن إسحاق بن يسار، والراوي عنه إبراهيم - وهو ابن سعد الزهري - هو أحد رواة السيرة النبوية عنه.
Note / Clarification: (1) The word "Ibn" had dropped out of the manuscripts, and including it is correct, because the person mentioned is "Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar", and the one narrating from him, Ibrahim - who is Ibn Sa'd al-Zuhri - is one of those who transmitted the Prophetic biography (al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah) from him.
(2) الثقفي: هو أبو العباس محمد بن إسحاق السَّرّاج، وأخرجه ابن عساكر 48/ 333 من طريق محمد بن جعفر الزَّرَّاد المَنْبِجي، عن عُبيد الله بن سعد، به.
Reference / Source: (2) "al-Thaqafi" refers to Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Sarraj. Ibn 'Asakir (48/ 333) recorded it by way of Muhammad bin Ja'far al-Zarrad al-Manbiji, from 'Ubayd Allah bin Sa'd, with this chain.
