It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no prayer for the one who has no ablution, and there is no ablution for the one who did not mention the name of Allah."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, and Imam Muslim used Ya'qub bin Abi Salamah as evidence, but the two Shaykhs did not record it; and it also has a supporting report (shahid).
Grading: Its chain is also da'if, like the previous narration. Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Majah narrated it (399) through two routes from Ibn Abi Fudayk, with this same chain, in which the narrator's name is given as "Ya'qub bin Salamah".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, in "al-Talkhis al-Habir" (1/ 72-73), after refuting this statement of Imam al-Hakim, quoted this statement of al-'Allamah Ibn Daqiq al-'Id: "Even if it were conceded to Imam al-Hakim that this is Ya'qub bin Abi Salamah al-Majishun (and Abu Salamah's name is Dinar), there would still remain the need to know the condition of Abu Salamah, while he is not mentioned anywhere in the books of narrators; so this narration would still not be sahih."
