Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have "naslahu" (with a mark of correction on it in (Z)), and in (S) the space is left blank. The correct word is established from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak", in agreement with the other sources that document the hadith.
Grading: (2) Its chain is "sahih". There is a discrepancy among those narrating from Isra'il (Ibn Yunus bin Abi Ishaq al-Sabi'i) in identifying the Companion: some mention 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud and some mention Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman. Likewise there is a discrepancy among those narrating from Abu Ishaq (Isra'il's grandfather).
Important point: This kind of discrepancy does not harm the authenticity of the hadith, because whichever way the hadith turns, it rests on a "Companion". It is also not unlikely that Silah (bin Zufar) heard this hadith from both of them, and Allah knows best.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (7/(3930)) from Aswad bin 'Amir and Khalaf bin al-Walid, and by al-Nasa'i (8140) through the route of al-Qasim bin Yazid al-Jarmi. All three narrate it from Isra'il, with this chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari (4380) from 'Abbas bin al-Husayn, from Yahya bin Adam, from Isra'il, from his grandfather Abu Ishaq, from Silah bin Zufar, from Hudhayfah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is how 'Abbas bin al-Husayn narrated it from Yahya bin Adam, contrary to the narration of al-Hasan bin 'Ali al-'Amiri from Yahya bin Adam, as he named the Companion as Hudhayfah. Yahya bin Adam was corroborated (in mentioning Hudhayfah) by 'Abdullah bin Raja' [see: 'Umar bin Shabbah's "Tarikh al-Madinah" 2/584].
Reference / Source: It was narrated without the story of the mutual cursing (mula'anah) by Ahmad (38/(23272), (23407)), Muslim (2420), Ibn Majah (135), al-Tirmidhi (3796) and al-Nasa'i (8141) through the route of Sufyan al-Thawri; and by Ahmad ((23377), (23397)), al-Bukhari (3745, 4381, 7254), Muslim (2420), Ibn Majah (135), al-Nasa'i (8142, 8143) and Ibn Hibban (6999) through the route of Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj. Both of them (Sufyan and Shu'bah) narrate from Abu Ishaq, from Silah bin Zufar, from Hudhayfah. (Here they mentioned Hudhayfah instead of Ibn Mas'ud.)
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Majah (136) from 'Ali bin Muhammad, from Yahya bin Adam, from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Silah bin Zufar, from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, in abridged form with the marfu' part at its end.
Note / Clarification: (1) In al-Bukhari it is with mention of Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman instead of Ibn Mas'ud, and its wording is likewise complete.
