أخبرني عبد الرحمن بن الحسن القاضي، حدثنا إبراهيم بن الحُسين، حدثنا أبو مُسهِر عبد الأعلى بن مُسهِر، حدثنا يحيى بن حمزة، عن عُروة بن رُوَيم، قال: توفي أبو عُبيدة بن الجَرَّاح بفِحْل من الأردن سنة ثَمانَ عشرةَ (1).
It is narrated from Urwah bin Ruwaym that Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 18 AH at Fihl in Jordan.

(1) وهو عند أبي زرعة الدمشقي في "تاريخه" ص 218، وابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 25/ 486 و 491 من طريقين عن أبي مُسهر. ولكن ليس فيه ذكر السنة.
Reference / Source: (1) It is narrated in Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi's "Tarikh" (p. 218), and in Ibn 'Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" (25/486, 491) through two routes from Abu Mushir.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But it does not mention the year (of death).
وقد جاء في "تاريخ أبي زرعة الدمشقي" ص 218 و 688 - 689، ومن طريقه عبد الجبار الخولاني في "تاريخ داريا" ص 114، وابن عساكر 25/ 488 من طريق محمد بن عائذ، عن أبي مُسهر، قال: قرأت في كتاب يزيد بن عبيدة: توفي أبو عبيدة سنة سبع عشرة.
Reference / Source: In "Tarikh Abi Zur'ah al-Dimashqi" (p. 218, 688-689), and through his route 'Abd al-Jabbar al-Khawlani in "Tarikh Darayya" (p. 114), and Ibn 'Asakir (25/488) narrated through the route of Muhammad bin 'A'idh, from Abu Mushir, that he said: "I read in the book of Yazid bin 'Ubaydah that Abu 'Ubaydah died in the year 17 AH."
قلنا: كأنَّ هذا أثبت عن أبي مُسهر في سنة وفاة أبي عبيدة. والله أعلم، وهذا ممّا انفرد به ابن عائذٍ كما قال الذهبي في "السير" 1/ 23.
Important point: We say: it seems that this is the more firmly established report from Abu Mushir about the year of Abu 'Ubaydah's death; and Allah knows best.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Ibn 'A'idh is alone in this, as al-Dhahabi said in "al-Siyar" (1/23).
وجمهور أهل التاريخ على أنه توفي سنة ثمان عشرة فيما قاله ابن عبد البر في "التمهيد" 2/ 277.
General principle: The majority of historians hold that he died in the year 18 AH, as Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said in "al-Tamhid" (2/277).
