(2). Abd al-Rahman bin Ghanm narrates from al-Harith bin Amirah al-Harithi that Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to send al-Harith bin Amirah to Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask how he was, while he had been struck by the plague. Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) showed him the plague wound that had come out on his palm, and al-Harith was frightened on seeing it. So Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) swore by Allah before him that he would not like to have, in exchange for it (this wound and sign of martyrdom), the most precious wealth of the world (red camels).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) The manuscripts have "fanaka'tuhu" (with the letter ta'), and we strongly suspect that it is a scribal corruption of "naka'a bihi", meaning: it affected him and caused him pain; that is, the state of the wound (sore) in the palm of Abu 'Ubaydah affected al-Harith bin 'Amirah and distressed him. This is supported by the wording in some narrations of the hadith: "fa-baka al-Harith wa fariqa minha" (so al-Harith wept and was frightened by it). The pronoun refers back to al-Harith.
Grading: (2) Its chain has some "lin" (softness/weakness). Shahr bin Hawshab, although he is closer to weakness, is regarded by some scholars as "strong" in what 'Abd al-Hamid bin Bahram narrates from him. (Identification of the narrators): "'Abdullah" is Ibn al-Mubarak, "'Abdan" is 'Abdullah bin 'Uthman bin Jabalah al-Marwazi, and "Abu al-Muwajjih" is Muhammad bin 'Amr al-Fazari. 25/ 485. Reference / Source: It is in Ibn al-Mubarak's "al-Zuhd wa al-Raqa'iq" (in the narration of al-Husayn al-Marwazi, 882), and through his route Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (25/485). Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bazzar (2671), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (364) and Ibn 'Asakir (11/459-460) through various routes from 'Abd al-Hamid bin Bahram, with this chain.
