حدثنا علي بن حَمْشاذ، حدثنا إسماعيل بن إسحاق القاضي. وأخبرني محمد بن المؤمَّل بن الحسن بن عيسى، حدثنا الفضل بن محمد بن المسيَّب؛ قالا: حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي أُوَيس، حدثنا سليمان بن بلال، حدثنا هشام بن عُروة، أخبرني أَبي، عن عائشة قالت: دخل عبدُ الرحمن بن أبي بكر ومعه سِواكٌ يَستَنُّ به، فقلت له: أعطني هذا السِّواكَ يا عبد الرحمن، فأعطانِيهِ، فَقَضَمتُه ثم مَضَغتُه فأعطيتُه رسولَ الله ﷺ، فاستَنَّ به وهو مُستنِدٌ إلى صدري (3).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه!

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came in with a tooth-stick (miswak) with which he was cleaning his teeth. I said to him: "O Abd al-Rahman, give me this miswak." He gave it to me, and I (trimmed it with my teeth and) chewed it, then gave it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned his teeth with it while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining against my chest.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Bukhari and Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(3) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل إسماعيل: وهو ابن أبي أُويس.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, but this particular chain of it is of the rank of "hasan" because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways.
وأخرجه البخاري (890) و (4450) عن إسماعيل بن أبي أويس، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari narrated it (890) and (4450) through the chain of Isma'il bin Abi Uways himself.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Therefore, Imam al-Hakim's including this hadith as an addition (to al-Bukhari) is a slip and an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
وأخرجه أحمد 42/ (25620) من طريق معمر، عن هشام بن عروة، به - بنحو ما سيأتي عند المصنف برقم (6868) من طريق ابن أبي مليكة عن عائشة.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in 42/ (25620) through the route of Ma'mar, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: It is similar to what will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (6868) through the route of Ibn Abi Mulaykah from 'A'ishah.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, but this particular chain of it is of the rank of "hasan" because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways.
