Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) The word "Abi" had dropped out of our manuscripts; we have restored it correctly from al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "Ithaf al-Maharah" (25483).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have "'Ish", in (M) it is written without dots, and in (S) it has been corrupted into "'Isa". The correct reading is what we have established from "Ithaf al-Maharah", and manuscript (M) can also bear it.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "very weak" because of Hisham bin Muhammad bin al-Sa'ib al-Kalbi, for he is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (Variation in the name): Here and in some sources his name is given as "'Abd al-Hamid bin Abi 'Abs bin Jabr" (as Ibn Hajar mentions in Nata'ij al-Afkar 2/220, and as the author mentions later at nos. 5588 and 5953). But his well-known name is "'Abd al-Majid", and perhaps that is correct. A group narrated from him and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", but Abu Hatim al-Razi declared him soft (layyin).
Details of the narration: There is disagreement over this narration of his: sometimes it is said "from his father", and sometimes, mentioning his grandfather, "from his father from his grandfather". 'Abd al-Majid's full name is "'Abd al-Majid bin Abi 'Abs bin Muhammad bin Abi 'Abs bin Jabr". Likewise Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" [7/589], al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" [6/111] and al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" [2/380] gave him this same name.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Abu al-Ash'ath" (in the chain) refers to "Ahmad bin al-Miqdam al-'Ijli".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" [2/428] from Abu 'Abdullah al-Hakim with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in his "Tarikh" [2/380] from Abu al-Ash'ath Ahmad bin al-Miqdam al-'Ijli with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-Dunya recorded it in "al-Hawatif" (75), and from him Abu Bakr al-Dinawari in "al-Mujalasah" (1266), from his father, from Hisham bin Muhammad, from 'Abd al-Majid bin Abi 'Abs, from his father, from his grandfather.
Note / Clarification: Here he gave the name as "'Abd al-Majid" and also mentioned his "grandfather" in the chain.
Reference / Source: Muhammad bin Habib al-Baghdadi recorded it in "al-Munammaq" (p. 148) from Hisham bin Muhammad bin al-Sa'ib al-Kalbi, from his father, from 'Abd al-Majid bin Abi 'Abs, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: "An uncle of mine informed me: Quraysh heard someone crying out..."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He added "Muhammad bin al-Sa'ib al-Kalbi" to the chain, who is "matruk and muttaham" (abandoned and accused of lying), and he also added mention of 'Abd al-Majid's grandfather and of an uncle.
Reference / Source: Al-Khara'iti recorded it in "Hawatif al-Jinan" (p. 35) from 'Ali bin Harb, from Abu al-Mundhir Hisham bin Muhammad al-Kalbi, from 'Abd al-Majid bin Abi 'Abs, from his "elders" (ashyakh), that: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) emigrated, news of him was hidden from Quraysh..."
Note / Clarification: Here he said "from his elders"! Imam al-Bukhari recorded the like of it in "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" [1/325] from Abu Muhammad al-Kufi as "mu'dal" (with a break in the chain).
