أخبرنا أبو جعفر البغدادي، حدثنا أبو عُلَاثة، حدثنا أبي، حدثنا ابن لَهِيعة، عن موسى بن جُبير، أنَّ أبا أُمامة بن سهل بن حُنيف أخبره: أنه قَدِمَ الشامَ في عهد مُعاوية، فلقِيَه نفرٌ من أهل الشام، فقالوا: ما قَرابَةُ ما بينَك وبينَ مُعاذ؟ قال: فقلتُ: ابن عمٍّ، قالوا: أفلا تُحدِّثُك بحديثٍ حدَّثَنا به قبل موتِه، ولم يكن حدَّثَنا به قبلَ ذلك؟ فقلتُ: بلى، فقال: حدَّثَنا قبل موتِه أنه سمعَ رسولَ الله ﷺ يقول: "مَن لَقِيَ الله لا يُشركُ به، دَخَلَ الجنةَ" (1).

It is narrated from Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf that he came to Syria in the time of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and a group of the people of Syria met him and asked: What is your relationship to Mu'adh (bin Jabal)? I said: He is my cousin. They said: Shall we not tell you a hadith that he narrated to us before his death, and which he had never narrated to us before that? I said: Of course. So they told me that Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) related before his death that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him will enter Paradise."

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف ابن لَهِيعة - وهو عبد الله - وموسى بن جُبير - وهو الأنصاري الحَذّاء - قال عنه ابن حبان بعد أن ذكره في "الثقات": يُخطئ ويخالف. قلنا: وللحديث طرق أُخَر عن مُعاذ بن جبل كما تقدَّم برقم (1315) يصحُّ بها. أبو عُلَاثة: هو محمود بن عمرو بن خالد الحَرَّاني ثم المصري.
Grading: (1) This hadith (its text) is "sahih", but this particular chain is "weak".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is the weakness of Ibn Lahi'ah ('Abdullah) and Musa bin Jubayr (al-Ansari al-Hadhdha'). After mentioning him in "al-Thiqat", Ibn Hibban said: "He makes mistakes and contradicts (others)." We say: this hadith has other routes from Mu'adh bin Jabal on the basis of which it is sahih, as has passed at number (1315). "Abu 'Ulathah" (in the chain) is Mahmud bin 'Amr bin Khalid al-Harrani (then al-Misri).
