Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5153

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Urwah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that those of Quraysh and the Ansar who took part in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) numbered three hundred and thirteen (313) men in all. Among them, from Banu Abd al-Muttalib bin Abd Manaf, were Ubaydah, Tufayl and Husayn (the sons of al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib). However, there is a difference of opinion concerning Rabi'ah bin al-Harith: it has been said that he lived on after that, reached the time of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and also narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Grading: (2) Its narrators are "unobjectionable" (la ba'sa bihim), as has been explained under number (4378).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (Identification of the narrators): "Abu 'Ulathah" is "Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Khalid al-Harrani" (then al-Misri), "Ibn Lahi'ah" is 'Abdullah, and "Abu al-Aswad" is "Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman", known as "Yatim 'Urwah" (the orphan of 'Urwah).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Zuhri agreed with 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr in mentioning these names among those who took part in the Battle of Badr [see Ibn Abi 'Asim's "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (345)]. Ibn Ishaq also mentioned them [see "Sirat Ibn Hisham" 1/ 677-678].
Reference / Source: Al-Waqidi also mentioned them in his book "al-Maghazi" [1/ 153].
